Bold Painted Furniture

Posted On: Wednesday, September 2, 2015

There have been a few lovely shots of bold, painted furniture floating around on the internet recently, I’ve posted about these on my Facebook page, and they’re beautiful. I think there should be at least one piece of furniture within your home that is painted a bold, block colour; whether you dare to go bright or keep it calm in pastels, your furniture will be given a new lease of life. It’s now becoming more popular to do this by either up-cycling an old piece of furniture or buying the furniture already painted for you. Whichever way you decide to achieve this wonderful effect, you won’t be disappointed. My favourite piece of painted furniture in my little montage above is the beautiful green cabinet at the top from wonenmetlef.nl it’s beautiful and not quite bold but not quite pastel either, for me it’s simply stunning.

If, like me and you don’t always have the time to restore furniture, there are some great pieces you can buy online whatever your budget is, as this is sure to be an investment piece…

Feeling Starry Eyed

Stars-Montage

Last month I wrote about my growing love of spots and before that my love of stripes, but my first love is stars and it started all the way back in my childhood. It was so far back I can’t even remember how old I was when this obsession first started, but what I do remember is that I was always drawing them in my doodles. Then one day my bedroom was redecorated with starry wallpaper, similar to the cream pattern above and my love of stars took off and I’ve never looked back.

I like stars in all styles, but my absolute favourite if I had to choose, is the seven point star because it was the star that was on the wallpaper when I was younger. They’re like a home comfort and hold a lot of memories for me. Similar to the spots and stripes, I like neutral coloured stars as you can clash them wonderfully with other patterns, something I’m yet to try!

I’ve bought many a starry product, but I think I need to add these to my collection…

1. Stars Throw Pillow from Love & Muse  2. Stars phone Case from Akaink  3. Map Stars Wrapping Paper from Bombus  4. Geometric Thread Art from Alison McIntyre  5. Eco Parcel Tape Stars from Lollipop Designs  6. Black & Gold Star Notebook from John Lewis

Drinks Cart

Posted On: Monday, July 13, 2015

I’ve come over all Mad Men in my post today, inspired by images I’ve been seeing online, the latest trend for homes and interiors is the drinks cart. There seems to be a mini revival for this piece of furniture thanks to cocktail and underground/prohibition style bars making a comeback, it seems the next step is to own your own drinks cart. With many styles and designs to choose from, the cart isn’t seen as old fashioned anymore, filled with the right ingredients and styled perfectly, it’s the ‘must have’ for your next party.

Seeing Spots and Dots

Spots Montage

In May I shared a post about my love for stripes, and fellow blogger Dorkfeatures suggested recreating the post but with spots. So that’s just what I did! As with stripes I love black and white spots and the dazzling effect they create. Regimented, random, small or big, my love of spots is growing everyday and I don’t have enough spotty products in my life. I think I need to go shopping to add to my collection…

Making the Most of Your Home

Making the most of our home is something we all strive to do, especially as it takes time to completely redecorate. The lovely folks at AgeUK have asked me to put together a few tips for making the most out of my home and what I would do to create a relaxing environment.

For me homeware is very important. We spend a lot of time at home and sometimes by adding a new, fresh touch here and there, can create a big difference. Two of my favourite things to buy and update are cushions and throws, they instantly add a pop of colour to a room with little expense. Throws and blankets are great for keeping warm on a late summer’s evening or wrapping up nice and toasty on a cold winter’s night. Cushions not only keep your bum comfy, they are great for nestling into with a good book.

Keeping-Warm

I’m a sucker for home decor too, whether it’s a quirky photo frame or a trinket that I just have too have! Accessorising your home can be as inexpensive as you like, which is perfect if you like to update your decor regularly – candle holders and small accessories are great for this! By simply adding new prints, photo’s and frames into a room, immediately brightens it up with a fresh look. If you’re like me, I mix and match frames, mirrors and prints so if I want to switch them around I can, without having to worry about co-ordinating them.

Decor

There are necessities we need for our home as well, and two which I always buy last minute or push down the shopping list are storage and lighting, especially lighting! My excuse is that I’m looking for that perfect lamp or light and I just haven’t found it yet, but the two lights I’ve selected below may have just gone onto the list… These two decorative elements make a house a home, they are not only practical but are a great way of updating your home without breaking the bank. Oh and they can add that splash of colour into a room without going all out colour crazy!

Light-&-Storage

Making the most out of your home doesn’t mean you have to completely re design, its about adding those little extra touches that bring it to life again.

For the Love of Stripes

Posted On: Wednesday, May 27, 2015

I’m a girl that loves stripes, black and white stripes in particular, I love them so much I’m even wearing my favourite stripy jumper whilst writing this post. I like to call it a healthy obsession and I’m here to share it proudly with you all! I can’t even remember where this stripy love began, I think it’s gradually grown over the years and now it’s here to stay. When I’m out shopping I’m always drawn to black and white striped products, whether it’s homeware, clothes or shoes and here’s a few I need to add to my collection…
